Over five unforgettable days, travel by freighter canoe from Constance Lake down the winding Kabinakagami River, through the Kenogami River, and into the legendary Albany River: one of the great historic routes of the North, until it opens into the vast waters of James Bay, connected to the Arctic Ocean. There’s no paddling here. Just the steady hum of the freighter canoe, carrying you effortlessly through remote boreal wilderness. This is travel as it once was, yet more comfortable, more intentional. You’ll sit back, take it in, and let the North unfold around you. Each evening, we pull onto quiet riverbanks to set up comfortable camps. Fires crackle as meals are prepared the old way, simple, hearty, and deeply satisfying. Fresh fish, warm drinks, and good company set the tone as the sun dips low and the sky stretches wide. This journey follows the footsteps and wake of the Voyageurs, along routes once vital to the Hudson's Bay Company and to the Indigenous peoples who have lived on and with these waters for generations. Along the way, you’ll hear stories of travel, trade, survival, and connection: stories that still live in the landscape today.
