Description

Discover one of the North’s best-kept secrets with our Glassy Falls Freighter Canoe Adventure: a full-day experience combining river travel, relaxation, and incredible fishing in a truly wild setting. This journey begins in the beautiful village of Mattice, where we launch onto the Missinaibi River aboard a 20 ft freighter canoe equipped with a motor, meaning you can sit back, relax, and fully enjoy the ride without lifting a paddle. We travel upstream for approximately one hour, navigating through sections of moving water and light rapids as we make our way deeper into the boreal wilderness. Along the way, you’ll experience the raw beauty of the river system that has shaped this region for generations. Our destination is Glassy Falls, often called the jewel of the Missinaibi, and for good reason. With its wide sandy shoreline, clear flowing water, and untouched surroundings, it’s easily one of the most stunning wild beaches in Ontario. Once we arrive, we’ll set up a cozy basecamp on the beach. A fire will be lit, and you’ll have time to relax, explore, swim, or simply take it all in. We’ll enjoy a riverside picnic together, surrounded by nothing but water, forest, and sky. Fishing opportunities here are exceptional. Cast directly from shore or head out in the freighter canoe to explore deeper water. This stretch of river is known for its abundance of northern pike, smallmouth bass, and walleye, making it an unforgettable experience whether you’re an avid angler or trying it for the first time. On our way back, we’ll make a meaningful stop at an old cemetery located on First Nations of Treaty 9 territory, a quiet and respectful moment to acknowledge the history and cultural significance of the land we are traveling through. Itinerary: We meet at the Hearst Tourist Centre at 10:00 AM and shuttle to the Mattice landing. From there, we head upriver to Glassy Falls for a beach picnic, relaxation, and fishing. After our return journey and cultural stop, we make our way back to Hearst. This is more than just a tour, it’s a chance to slow down, connect with the land, and experience the North in its purest form.
